In the news and entertainment categories, Facebook is well ahead of all other sources in referrals on mobile. The app ecosystem, the modes and moods of mobile use, all tend to undermine — or at least verticalize — traditional search.

Weve got a few more product updates to report (its been a busy few days). . The Lists name is now reflected throughout the application and API. We also made a minor change to the format of our emails and html embed, and now place your editorial commentary and point of view above the content snippet. Given that all the social networks to which we publish use this format (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), we thought it was just made a lot more sense to do it this way.

Last month, I wrote about the fun and the pitfalls of viral maps , a feature that included 88 super-simple maps of my own creation. As a follow-up, Im writing up short items on some of those maps, walking through how I created them and how they succumb (and hopefully overcome) the shortfalls of viral cartography. One of the most interesting data sets for aspiring mapmakers is the Census Bureaus American Community Survey .
